Let’s face it, the world of Harry Potter is pretty awesome. Through the movies (including the spin-offs) we’ve seen wizarding Paris, New York and London. By the looks of it, the Harry Potter universe is not over. Because of that, I decided to make a list of dream Harry Potter locations that readers and viewers alike would enjoy.

Beijing, China

Harry Potter locations- Beijing, China
This world capital makes a dream Harry Potter location.

By tradition, Beijing is a city of walls, sheltering its intrigues and ambitions behind a series of concentric barriers from the Great Wall down to courtyard homes that draw sunlight only from the gardens at their core.

Evan Osnos

What can I say about Beijing that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before? We associate the Chinese capital with politics, fog and history. Because of that, I believe Beijing would be a terrific setting for future Harry Potter stories. Imagine a battle between two wizards with the Great Wall as a backdrop.

Venice, Italy

A dreamy place, perfect for magical adventures.

Venice once was dear, The pleasant place of all festivity, The revel of the earth, the masque of Italy.

Lord Byron

Venice is a gorgeous place year round. With canals, small bridges, St Mark’s Square, terrific architecture and a hospital where even cats can be found- Venice is a dreamy place for a Harry Potter adventure. After all, a quote that can be found in Venice’s armory is:

“Happy is that city which in time of peace thinks of war.”

Venice is truly a city that is mysterious, charming, beautiful and remarkable. There is no place on earth quite like it.

Any Island In Greece

Greek Islands- good Harry Potter locations
Locations such as Mykonos & Santorini would be perfect Harry Potter locations.

On a summer night, I have sat on the balcony drinking Ouzo, watching the ghosts of Greek Heroes sailing past, listening to the rustle of their sail cloths and the gentle lapping of their oars… and lain alongside Pythagoras watching him study the myriad of triangles in the constellations twinkling above us. Whether it was Crete, the heat, the Ouzo, or a combination, it is unequalled anywhere other than Santorini, in my humble opinion.

Phil Simpkin

I don’t think I need to explain the beauty of the Greece islands, or why they are perfect stock for Harry Potter locations. The main reason I have is that they are so unlike the magical world of Hogwarts.

If places such as Mykonos were written as magical, it would intrigue the readers. Plus, it would also be cool to see Greek Mythology interwined through it.

Mumbai, India

The opportunities are endless.

Mumbai’s infectious. Once you start living in Mumbai, working in Mumbai, I don’t think you can live anywhere else.

Yash Chopra

Mumbai, the gorgeous city with millions of stories (Bollywood!). It’s also a financial district, a favourite tourist destination and is home to the Elephanta Island. Because of Mumbai’s special and unique history, this is a city that would make a compelling Harry Potter location. There would be awesome opportunities to introduce new Harry Potter characters as well.

Cairo, Egypt

Remember when the Weasley’s were sharing their memories about Egypt in the 3rd book?

Cairo is in a state of becoming… We just don’t know what it’s becoming yet.

Daniel Joseph Monti

Let’s be real: Egypt is not the safest country and is currently in alot of political strife. However, Cairo is still a beautiful place, brimming with history and many wonders. I am certain it can be one of the many spellbinding Harry Potter locations. Because of that, I think it would be a terrific location for J.K Rowling’s magical universe.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

A picture of rothenburg, one of my harry potter locations.
Germany’s Hogsmeade.

There are towns that scream romance, and then there is Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber that take it to a new level. Located in Bavaria, Germany- this little town is known for its Christmas markets and fairytale buildings. If this was featured in a Harry Potter story, I am absolutely certain that it would captivate readers worldwide. Imagine shops brewing potions and magical foods, and wizards chatting in cozy cafes!

This place is also quite special to me, as I first saw snow here. Absolutely magnificent.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

It’s a favourite of many for a good reason.

Without the streets or dusks of Buenos Aires, a tango cannot be written.

Jorge Luis Borges

There are cities in the world that have a lively atmosphere of sport, food, culture and life. Make no mistake about it, Buenos Aires is one of them. With the coloured buildings, the active nightlife, the literature and of course, the food and football- Argentina is the perfect place for some wizarding action. You know the characters are going to have a terrific time here.

Moscow, Russian Federation

An obvious pick, yet c’mon. This is one dream Harry Potter location.

Moscow had this incredible, intense atmosphere of intrigue and darkness and secrecy.

Alan Furst

To conclude this list, I’m going to mention Moscow. Because of it’s beauty and epic scope, I can’t imagine a list of Harry Potter locations without including Moscow. Do I even need to suggest how Russia could feature in the Harry Potter universe? There are many options- from a historical drama between wizards or a modern mystery between witches. Adding onto that, I think Russia is the terrific backdrop for awesome magical creatures!

Therefore, Moscow may be a beast of a city, yet it is incredibly special.
